It is estimated that between 18-20% of children in Barbados have Asthma.

The Asthma Association of Barbados

The Asthmas Association of Barbados (AAB) was officially launched in January 1990. The major objective of the AAB is the education of the public on the treatment and control of asthma. The AAB is committed to reducing the prevalence, morbidity and mortality of asthma in Barbados.

The Association takes part in health fairs and exhibitions, gives public lectures to schools and PTAs, and functions as a support group.  The AAB also sponsors free public lectures to the Barbadian public by visiting doctors. Meetings are held on the third Saturday of every other month at 4 p.m. at Belleville Medical Centre, 3rd Avenue Belleville, St. Michael.

The AAB is one of the charities which benefit from the Kiwanis Club of Bridgetown’s Silver Dollars Drive. The proceeds of this drive are used to purchase spacing devices and peak flow meters. These devices are given free of cost to asthmatic children in primary schools in Barbados.
